Rain doesn't stop play for golf fundraiser
Arriving at Murcar Golf Club amidst blue skies and benign conditions, 17 golfers were welcomed to the 2023 XL Global Group charity golf day in high spirits.
Generously supported by a number of the Group's supply chain partners; Siemens, Daniel instruments, JBD Tritec and FPS, participants from a wide range of industry sectors competed alongside XL Group staff for a number of prizes.
Underpinning the day was the opportunity to raise some funds for charitable causes. Graeme Simpson, Head of Sales (UK) said "The XL Global group golf day is a great opportunity to catch up with both clients and suppliers from around the UK. We really appreciate everyone who joined us on the course, but also those who have supported the event through the contribution of prizes. Whilst we as a business have had some phenomenal successes in 2023, days like this are a poignant reminder that many have endured tougher times."
The day began with a fiercely competed putting competition - edged by Stuart White from Blaze Manufacturing solutions. This was followed by a team competition played over the Murcar Championship course, a tough golfing challenge at the best of times, made all the trickier with the arrival of some stereotypical Scottish wind and rain as players made their way around the front 9. "It is fair to say that the 'half-way house' was a welcome sight for many," added Graeme.
Whilst the weather successfully dampened the players, it failed to overcome the objective of the day. Encouraged by XL Global Group CEO Colin Laird, players competed on two fronts for the opportunity to select a charity who would benefit from a generous donation on behalf of the Company.
In a tightly contested affair, the individual winner was Phil Boyce of Centurion Group. Phil selected 'Lifestars', a local charity providing children with additional support needs and a platform and range of opportunities recognised as being essential to ensure all children have the facility to grow to their greatest potential.
Neve McPherson, founder of Life Stars said, "The donation will go towards an afternoon at Cormack Park with Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust for 120 children from Hanover Primary School. The remainder of the money will go towards purchasing specialist needs equipment for other schools to allow young children to enjoy their school experience to its fullest."
Aided by Phil's strong scoring the team, led by Colin Laird, which included Phil and Jonathan Hogan of Noble Drilling, successfully edged ahead of the competition to take home the team prize. A collective agreement was made to split the funds between Lifestars, and Alzheimers Scotland- Scotland's national dementia charity.
Mark Hamilton, MD of Aquidata XL commented, "Everyone at XL Global Group is extremely grateful for the support of our clients and supply chain partners, without whom, we would not have been able to enjoy such a successful day or learn about and contribute towards such worthwhile causes."
