Schaltbau announces launch of new Eddicy C303 500 A bidirectional contactors

Enhanced contactor series lowers total cost of ownership with up to 25% more energy cost savings

Schaltbau, a global leader in direct current (DC) technology, announces the launch of a new version of its enhanced Eddicy C303 contactor series, now capable of handling continuous currents up to 500A. Additionally, the new C303 has achieved UL certification, along with CE and UKCA, underscoring the product's adherence to stringent safety and performance standards globally.

As part of a larger company initiative to expand its contactor portfolio for industry, the C303 500A version is designed to support applications with greater power needs, such as energy storage systems, fast-charging stations, test benches for batteries and large-scale industrial electrification projects.

The contactors are also engineered to offer lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), with up to 25% energy cost savings, through enhanced efficiency and durability. Features such as ultra-low contact resistance minimize power losses and heat generation, while robust design elements extend operational lifespan, reducing the frequency of replacements and associated downtime. Customers benefit from long-term cost savings, making the C303 an ideal solution for demanding environments.

"We look forward to further broadening our industry contactor portfolio this year, starting with the launch of the C303 500A,” said Steffen Munz, CEO of Schaltbau. “While the C303 series highlights our commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions, it also reflects the core values that set us apart as a company—combining optimal form factor, precision-engineered quality made in Germany, and a focus on lowering total cost of ownership to support a more sustainable footprint.”

The C303 contactor is a compact, high-performance switching device for applications with high making and short-time currents or large capacity. Designed for high-performance applications, it features a high breaking capacity of up to 1.5 megawatts and full bidirectionality to ensure the safe breaking of high-power loads. The long-life open air isolation contactor design eliminates the risk of explosion by using permanent magnetic arc extinguishing without gas encapsulation, preventing damage and rapid aging. With high reliability, the contactor can handle short circuits carrying up to 5,000 amps without contact welding, significantly enhancing system availability.

Additionally, the C303 ensures a high safety level with a mirror contact that provides secure feedback on switching status, compliant with IEC 60947-4-1, annex F.

Three coil control options are available to suit various needs: Ecosave, featuring an energy-saving PWM module for maximum drive efficiency; High Efficiency Drive (HED), innovatively designed to achieve optimal power consumption without the need for energy-saving circuitry; and a precharge contactor, ideal for limiting inrush currents and protecting main contactors by introducing a current-limiting resistor.

The C303 contactor series is part of Schaltbau's Eddicy brand, dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions for electrification in energy and e-mobility through various DC applications, including energy storage, charging infrastructure, test benches and electric vehicles.
